We will be moving! Check out the construction progress at our new location: 2525 Piedmont Road North! Look here next week for the latest construction pictures.

Sam Powers, Pastor of Piedmont United Methodist church

As the pastor of Piedmont First United Methodist Church, I would like to extend a warm welcome from our congregation! We invite you to visit our church for Sunday School at 9:45 a.m. or to join us for Worship at either 8:30 or 11:00 a.m.

This church has been in ministry to the Piedmont community and beyond since 1903 when the church was founded. Currently, we operate at 4th and Monroe but we have already purchased property for relocation at 2525 Piedmont Road North. We hope to be worshipping in our new facility in early 2009.

We celebrate Holy Communion on the first Sunday of each month. All who visit our service are welcome to receive Holy Communion with us.

We have an active choir program under the direction of Meredith Edmison and accompanied by our organist, Shirley Phinney. They meet each Wednesday night for choir practice at 6:00 p.m. and are always looking for new members!

Our children's program is under the direction of Jenni Hillman. Each Sunday, our children in grades K-5 enjoy Blast!, our rotational Sunday school program. Also during the school year we host a children's program on Wednesdays for those in Kindergarten through 5th grade using the FaithWeaver Friends curriculum. Our summer program includes Vacation Bible School using the United Methodist curriculum.

Our youth program utilizes our White Building next door under the direction of Andrew Rose. Mid High (6th-8th) and Sr. High (9th-12th) meet there for Sunday School at 9:45 a.m. During the school year, Mid High meets on Wednesdays after school until 5:00 pm. Our church bus picks them up at the middle school. Senior High meets from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Wednesdays as well.

Charis Worship is a new worship service that we’ll be offering on Sunday nights at 6:00 pm in our church. Child care is available in the nursery just north of our main building with pagers available for parents. Charis Worship is an emergent worship service which features guitar-driven singing, secular music and film, Holy Communion and hands-on prayer stations. The name comes from the Greek word Charis which refers to God’s favor or grace in the New Testament. We bill Charis Worship as a post-modern faith community because post-modernism derives it’s authority from a variety of sources. With scripture as our primary source, we try to show how God is alive and active in the culture at large if we have eyes to see. We hope you’ll join us for a different worship experience.

Our Christian Education encompasses Sunday classes for all ages. We hope that you will join us this Sunday! If you would like to read my latest word to the church, click here: Circuit Rider.
