Making a Place For All God's People!

Welcome to Piedmont first United Methodist Church! Our membership is a young congregation that emphasizes  “Open Hearts, Open Minds and Open Doors” in reaching out to the expanding community of Piedmont. Our children and youth programs are important with paid staff at each position. Our worship emphasizes God’s grace over God’s judgment and we are the only mainline congregation in Piedmont.

Ash Wednesday Services

Picture
Ash Wednesday services will be held on February 22nd at 7:00 am and 7:00 pm. Child care will be available for the evening service.

Ash Wednesday is the first day of the season of Lent in the church calendar.  Lent is the 40 day season (not including Sundays) when Christians look toward the coming of Easter.  Many take on special spiritual disciplines such as special prayer times or Bible readings.  Others fast from luxuries such as sweets or television shows.  The spiritual disciplines remind us of the forty days that Jesus fasted in the wilderness before he began his public ministry.  The Ash Wednesday service is the beginning of this season and is a reminder that we are mortal.  Participants have the sign of the cross in ashes put on their foreheads to remind us that we “come from dust and to dust we shall return.”

Questions about Ash Wednesday and Lent are answered on the United Methodist Church website.
