A Difficult Decision

Hello Piedmont Family of Faith -

It's hard to actually write these words because this decision was not made lightly. But after much reflection, prayer, agonizing internal debate, and buckets of tears, I have accepted the Director of Music Ministries position at St. Stephens UMC in Norman. I negotiated with them to give 4 weeks’ notice so that we have time to work on some interim processes to make the transition as smooth as possible. That would make my last Sunday at Piedmont September 26th.

One thing that made this decision particularly gut wrenching is that I have told many people that I fully intended to stay at Piedmont after Randy left. And I really had every intention of doing that. This position came completely out of the blue - it was not something I was seeking, but when the opportunity came knocking at my door, I felt called to pursue it. I can't honestly say that I've ever truly felt "called" to a position before, but with this position, I did.

Jinx Barber is the other part of what made this decision so hard. Jinx is an amazing human - if you haven't had the chance to get to know him yet, I encourage you to do so! He has everything we need in a leader to help our church move forward and make a significant impact on the Piedmont Community. I hope each of you will give him your full support and assistance.

I’m going to miss you all so very much. You have become like family to me - we’ve prayed together, celebrated together, communed together, cried together and everything in between. I'm going to make the most of the next few weeks and I'm going to do everything I can to help make the transition smooth. I’ll still be hanging out at my homestead with my goats and chickens, and you are welcome to reach out to me anytime!

With much love -
Marci Corey
